On October 15, China Association of Actuaries (CAA), jointly with Society of Actuaries (SOA), held the Sino-US Mortality Table Development Webinar. CAA invited Dale Hall,  the managing director of research of SOA, and members of the SOA's Retirement Plans Experience Committee (RPEC) to introduce the development progress of the recent U.S. major mortality tables. The members from the CAA’s Mortality Investigation Office and the Third Mortality Table Development Team also attended the Webinar.

During the webinar, the RPEC introduced the development process of SOA’s mortality tables; the structure and preparation of the 2015 Valuation Basic Tables, 2017 Commissioner’s Standard Ordinary (CSO) Tables, and the private retirement plan RP-2014 Mortality Tables. The SOA RPEC members emphatically introduced the development of the Mortality Improvement Scale MP-2014 (Thermodynamic Chart for the US Mortality Improvement).

After the webinar, CAA will hold a meeting soon to introduce the development of the China Third Mortality Table to SOA.

In June, 2015, CAA signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with SOA. Since then, CAA and SOA hold monthly telephone conferences to enhance mutual understanding, already have cooperated on pension and mortality table projects, and are exploring more cooperative projects and modes as bridge of communication between Sino-US actuaries.
